Welcome to Thrive with Nancy. You already know this podcast is for you, an executive woman wanting more from your career or you wouldn't have ever tuned in. Are you set to empower your career through building lovely strategic AlleyOOP ? I know it relates more to sports as it envisions that fantastic player driving against all odds to bound upward and score. That is precisely why I want to use AlleyOOP in this thrive with Nancy podcast because more often than we realize as executives, we drive through barriers or at least we should be driving through barriers to achieve success. It has an against all odds. Take no prisoner attitude in pursuit of one's objective. Have you heard the latest challenging statistic when it comes to women and why acquiring ooping tactics is so necessary in today's chaotic marketplace? Well, a recent analysis estimates that 79% of working women, which is far more than our competitive men, are in occupations susceptible to disruption and automation. This research comes from the University of North Carolina's Cannon Flagler Business School. Let's explore three more eye-opening business statistics that will have you developing your own driving career AlleyOOP to change your professional trajectory in the positive so that you end up where you wanna end up. First, Harvard Business School research found that employees working in a high trust company have 106% more energy. Perhaps you're one of those executives who doesn't trust your boss or senior management, and yet trust is one of the coins for success in the land of business. Does this mean there's no hope for you experiencing a thriving career? Hold onto your hat. Let's look at a AlleyOOP drive. I'm in no way attempting to defend senior leaders poor behavior, and I wanna voice a different point of view that may be a career game changer for you. Along with a slew of my clients, I lament who I was and who they were as we came up the ranks harshly criticizing and distrusting our bosses. Years later, after assuming my boss' role, I realized there's much more to decision making than I ever knew. My judgment with this new knowledge made me apologize when possible and reevaluate my wrong, wrong assessments of the past. Judgment for or against, always rest in your hands. Negative assessments regarding your boss or senior management will damage your career long term , so you must handle them or move to a trustworthy work environment. If all of this is true, what can you do? Here are AlleyOOP mental shifts you could take in your hands right now. Assess your objections with an I own this attitude. Take a step back and evaluate why you don't trust this leader. What are the specific actions or behaviors that leave you feeling this way? Could it be that you are seeing this through your own lenses and there is another way of viewing it? What are you missing next? Rarely can you change another person, especially your boss. You don't have the power to change your boss to the best of your ability. Stop judging others and instead, focus on your performance, professional growth and skill development. You'd be surprised how building up your reputation as a go-to employee will change your lot in the organization and perhaps even change the not so great things about your boss. Next, find trustworthy champions to support you in the organization. Your network of supporters will provide a sense of security and offer helpful assistance in guiding you along the way. Remember that you don't wanna wallow in spiraling down conversations. Rather, you want you and your cadre of champions to focus on spiraling up with solutions and guidance, so keep that focus in mind. What's the downside to this attitude? You may be so even handed in your calculation that you remain in an untenable situation for far too long. Leaving may be what you need to do. The second research is a d p found that only 3.8% of the 51 million workers studied were upscaled. You know that means they gained additional skills within the first two years of being hired. <laugh> . That's sad. A big reason for this low, less than encouraging statistic is a lack of upskilling chances in organizations, employers either didn't provide education or didn't offer prospects for better positions in their company. Your AlleyOOP drive. It's up to you to determine the developmental gap between where you are now and where you intend to be. This focus will add effective propulsion to your career. After all, who knows your passions, strengths and aspirations better than you? Isn't it time to become the agent for what you bring into your career? There's rarely anything standing in the way and the pathway of a fulfilling career other than yourself. This shift recharges your energy. Lower stress boosts job satisfaction and confidence, and it also expands your work experience. What's the downside? If you don't step out boldly regarding what project add-ons you request and take on, you may find yourself with too many comfortable undergrowth oriented tasks leading to burnout, never to be considered a potential leader. Or even worse, you have not opened yourself to being assigned upskill projects for your career aspirations and expansion. Three, research women are switching jobs at the highest rate in years according to McKinsey and company and lean in in what some call the great breakout. If you've got to leave, you've got to go. However, if you're tilting back and forth in your decision, you might want to negotiate and open doors to areas that interest you and draw on your passions and strength. What's your AlleyOOP drive? As a well-respected employee, you have more leverage than you realize to change your career future. Isn't it time to roll the dice and see if you can transform your career right where you are before moving to a brand new organization who doesn't know you? Challenge yourself to assume accountability for being the agent of your development and direction before leaping into the unfamiliar. This shift recharges your energy. Lower stress generates greater recognition, enriches creativity, boost productivity, and enhances job satisfaction and confidence, all leading to expanding your work experience. You'll be way happier too . Not bad outcomes for testing out the theory, especially when you already intended to leave. What's the downside? You're right. This approach may present a risk. Yes, it requires boldness and laser-like intentionality with your boss and senior managers, and it also mandates solid winning concepts to adapt your position, to suit you better and improve your company's future. The two have to go in tandem. The upside well, you'll enjoy them for the rest of your working life. Have fun allying your career wins. Don't hang back, lean in and try some of these on for size . After all this, I bet you're ready. For more women executive Success Insights, check out the free resources at my website. Thrive with Nancy.
